Wake, walk, hug, run, & compete without pain!
At Compass Chiropractic, we have always offered and continue to offer free in-office consultations. We recently decided that at times a simple, old-fashioned phone call might be the most effective way to answer your questions regarding whether our care can help the problem that you’ve been dealing with. Additionally, if it does sound like a problem I can help I can give you an idea about what I expect to need to do in terms of exam and testing to determine the causes of your problem.
Schedule a “Talk with the Doc” call or feel free to email me back at this address with a question if that works better for you!
Below is a SUPER QUICK video featuring my wife, Val, of what a first visit is like at our office:

Sandy recommends Carving by Keenan
Recently I moved to a new home and had a large chunk of wood that I salvaged from a tree (from my former home) that I was very fond of. My intention was always to do something special with it so I learned from a friend of a local wood carver who was just what I needed. His name is Gary Keenan and he does chainsaw woodcarving and is located in Altoona. In my situation, we delivered the tree trunk to his workshop in Altoona. In the case of my friend, he made a house call and created a beautiful carving into the large tree stump in my friend’s backyard after his tree was damaged from a storm. Gary has done many amazing carvings, not just in Iowa, but in many places in the U.S. and Europe. He has demonstrated his talent at the Iowa State Fair as well as many other fairs and festivals. To truly see just how talented he is, check out some of the carvings he has posted on his web site, carvingbykeenan.com. We are fortunate to have such a talented artist located in Central Iowa. I am thrilled with the finished product and now I have a wonderful keepsake to remember the tree that I’m very sentimental about and was saddened to lose a few years ago. And yes, I wanted a keepsake gnome. I’m a gardener and gnomes are legendary creatures who guard the earth’s treasures….just what a gardener needs!

Sheri Recommends Top Five Best Selling Items at Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market
Some of you know that I work part time at Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market in the Natural Living department. Dr. Krohse has asked me to provide the top five items selling in that department in our newsletters each month going forward. This will provide you all with some great information on popular nutritional supplements for over all health and well being. So without further ado… the winners this past month are:
Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
This product has become extremely popular as it is unflavored and sourced from grass fed, pasture raised bovine hides. It can be added to everything from coffee, juices, smoothies to oatmeal, soups, sauces and sprinkled on veggies etc…People are using it for healthy skin, hair, nails, joints, tendons, cartilage and bones. It is highly bio-available, digestible and soluble in cold or hot liquids or dishes.
Curamed by Terry’s Naturally
This product is 750mg of curcumin with turmerones. Turmerones are the major constituents of turmeric rhizome essential oils. Turmerones help with the absorption of curcumin. Customers use this product for a healthy inflammation response, support liver, brain, heart and immune health. It has a high antioxidant value that protects cells from oxidative stress and free radicals. Terry’s Naturally products are made from non-GMO turmeric grown without chemicals and free from harmful solvents.
Natural Vitality Calm
This is a product that Dr. Krohse highly recommends to our patients. It is a great magnesium supplement. It promotes magnesium levels and balances calcium intake. Helps you feel less stressed and more relaxed. It is used to help with sleep, muscle cramps, constipation, lower stress, and heart health.
Eucalyptus and Peppermint Essential Oils
With the cold and flu season winding down I grouped these two together. As they are used together a lot of the time during this season. Eucalyptus works as an expectorant and helps cleanse the body of toxins and harmful microorganisms that make you feel sick. Peppermint oil does much more than just freshen breath. They are both great to diffuse at night during cold and flu season to help with respiratory issues, fever, and headaches. There are some great recipes out there as well for chest rubs and creams for muscle and joint aches. With this terrible cold and flu season this year many customers used these in combination with some other excellent immune supporting products we carry to stay healthy and shorten the flu duration they were experiencing.
I’m excited to provide you all with the great products we have at Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market each month. Most of you know I am a huge advocate of natural and herbal remedies. I have used them for years now for my own health. Stop in and see me at Fresh Thyme on Saturday nights. I am always learning new knowledge in this area, not just from working here, but from the other staff working in the department and customers who shop with us!

Dr. Krohse Recommends Urban Sugar Cake Pops
Many of you got to know our team member, Amy, during the years she worked here in the mornings. She brought great energy to her role juggling scheduling, teaching exercises, and managing our corporate wellness programs such as lunch and learns and health fairs.
While Amy has moved on from Compass Chiropractic, she continues to run her own business, Urban Sugar Cake Pops. I recently recorded a quick video sharing my experiences with Urban Sugar. I definitely feel like the cake pops have been the “star of the show” when we have provided them during open houses. Also, I believe they are such a thoughtful treat to provide as a gift or for a special celebration because they can be customized to represent what the person is most passionate about.
Urban Sugar Cake Pops would be perfect for your upcoming graduation parties! Follow Urban Sugar on Facebook or Instagram to see Amy’s fun designs!
